Icing Accident Reports

I find that quite often, pilots and training staff believe they know what happened in one accident or another, yet have not read the actual accident report. This used to be quite problematic because the reports could be difficult to obtain. However, the NTSB, AAIB, TSBC and other foreign authorities have been steadily uploading accident reports for several years now. Between those sources, and others such as the Hunt Library Digital Collections at Embry Riddle, it is now possible to access many, many complete accident reports. Taking the time to read them can be extremely informative. It is particularly instructive to read historical reports and compare them with more recent cases...often they bear striking similarities, while in other cases, more developed knowledge and understanding is apparent in later investigations.
